I have a 2007 Vanguard trailer under my 260 Sundeck. It has disk brakes and required the 5 pin connector. Is there any way to completely disengage the brakes? My driveway has a slight incline and I am concerned the surge brakes are engaging as I am trying to back up. Nothing better than backing uphill. I used to be able to lock out the surge brakes on my other trailer. I cannot figure out how to do this on this trailer.

Mine has a pin that you put in place to keep the brakes from engaging. If you don't have something like that I know of people that have cut a board and wedged it up under the slider.

I drilled and added a lock out pin to my coupler. This gives you the option of locking out the brakes when backing up hill or in the event of a solenoid failure.

If it required the 5 pin connector it should already have a lock-out solenoid....it should be activated by the reverse light's voltage.

Yup, what T2 said. Should not be a problem if you have all 5-pins connected.

If you only think your breaks are engaging, they probably are not. I back up a steep driveway and was worried my breaks might be engaging, because it seemed tuff at times. One day on flat ground I found out, by forgetting to plug the connector, that when the breaks engage, there ain't no going backwards at all. They LOCK!

The problem I have is I approach my house from a down hill grade, so when I stop to back into the driveway, the breaks are already set. I have to stop, give the tow vehicle a quick goose in forward, then pop it into reverse to activate the lock out solenoid. This all happens in a space of about two feet. Once I do this I'm able to back up the driveway without a problem. Still nice having a lockout pin, just in case.

What my dealer does intead of relying on the electric lockout solenoid when moving boats around with a tractor is to simply disconnect the coupler for the hydraulic line. There is one on my trailer right below the winch stand. Its a simple quick connect/disconnect like an air compressor tool coupler.

This thing.

That is a nice feature on the FW trailers.
