I am looking for a Prop Nut Tool for the Merc Bravo 3 inner nut. $60.00 on EBay seems steep. I thought someone on BABC had one that they didn't need anymore. If so, or you know a cheaper source, please advise.

If no one has one, I can get you one for under $60...

Not much cheaper, but very handy. No need for a rachet, and fits BOTH nuts. You can find them on Ebay sometimes.

The PROPERTHING looks like a better tool overall for the $60.00 But, I'll use it so infrequently that if you have a cheap source for the Merc tool I'll just get that one. Let me know. Thanks.

I have the model #Model #B-3 Duel from Poperthing and just used it last week to remove the props and grease the spline, works like a charm. You just have to be careful when doing the larger nut that the wrench doesn't walk off. I think they make to size then after they are painted it's a little tight getting on the nut.

I picked up the Properthing tool to swap my high altitude 26 pitch B3 props for some 28s I picked up on ebay (for $375!). Worked like a charm. The long length of the tool made loosening/tightening the nuts really easy.

One thing that isn't obvious when you swap props is that there is a bushing that fits inside the aft prop that has to be popped out and put into the new prop.

There is the same type of bushing on both props actually, etyppo.

Oops. Thanks. Didn't notice it on the forward one. Guess I'll get to use the tool again. smile

I took a look at my old forward prop, and it wasn't there. Pulled the new props and it was on the shaft. It didn't come off with the old prop, which is why I didn't see it.

Also, my 06 outdrive doesn't have the anode at the end of the shaft. Didn't Merc start putting them on in 03 or so? It is threaded for one, but its not there.

The anode is actually attached to the outer prop nut, not the shaft. So if someone lost the propnut that takes the anode, they replaced it with the "old style" nut that doesn't take the anode. I believe the "new style" nut is more expensive than the old style.
