We attempted to move into the houseboat this weekend, and get the Bayliner out of storage and ready to go. As usual, Murphy was the monkey on my back. Friday evening was spent getting power and making sure the fireplace was working. First up, the pilot light on the fireplace wasn't big enough to hit the thermocouple. Found out a spider laid some eggs in the pilot tube. Got fire, let's plug in. And, I find the electric cord was shorting out where I had it looped around the railing. $92 for a new 100' 10 gauge extension cord fixed that. The wind howling all night kept us up half the night, but we were warm. Saturday, I was going to grab 50 gallons of water and flush the antifreeze out of the lines. I go looking for the water barrel, and find it was a mess (was used to help drain a pond). So I take some soap and rags so I can clean it out. I get my water, with permission, about a half mile from the lake at a cabinet place with an outside faucet. I get there and find the cabinet place is now a landscape place. Now I have to drive 3 more miles to get my water. No biggie. I clean the barrel, fill it and come back. Oddly enough, my spare water pump works flawlessly, and I fill the tank. I hook up the lines to the pump, hit the switch, and naturally, I got a leaky hose fitting. Fixed that, then proceed with flushing the lines. After running 10 gallons thru the lines, I still couldn't get the water to run clear, kept getting antifreeze suds and smell. Oops, forgot about the accumulator. Filled and flushed it a couple of times...Finally, after my 2 hour job took pretty much all day, we got water. We hit the hay, and about 2 am, I wake up and it's colder than it should be. I walk into the living room, and I see no pilot light--the fireplace emptied the propane tank. Other than a small heater on low, we got no heat. It got down to about 27 last night, but the boat only got down to 45 and the admiral brought lots of blankets so we were warm enough. Today was spent cleaning filthy windows and other general cleaning. And in the afternoon the next stormm started blowing in, got down into the 40's. Forecast for the week sucks, so---we decided to come home for a few more days. Never did go get the Bayliner. But I did get the motorhome running. Fired right up. So, to stay on topic ( ) I did get ONE engine started! Hopefully I'll be so lucky with the 4 boat engines! (And hopefully Murphy will leave me alone next weekend!)
