After working bell-shifts 6 of the last 7 days, finally had a day off to enjoy, but it was too windy to have much fun on the boat.

My wife had a morning meeting at the San Diego Convention Center, so we met for lunch at Seaport Village about noon. After lunch, I played the tourist and took a bunch of photos (duh!).

It rained a bit last night, really cleaned the air up and it was nice to see the bay from the mainland side for a change.

This huge statue is ralatively new, just south of the carrier/museum Midway. It is a depiction of the famous Times Square post WW2 "kiss" that Life magazine made famous.

A perspective on the size. I've noticed it several times from the water as well.

Also a few yards away from that big statue is the Bob Hope Memorial. Interestingly enough, it does not include a statue of Bob Hope, just his audience, but it is very realistic and impressive.

My old friends were docked right off Seaport Village, but I don't think they recognized me without ALoha2.

Interesting kite

In the Marriott Marina, next to the convention center. Think a couple MD's had a boat partnership?

Seaport Village Fish Restaurant

More stuff along the harbor walk at Seaport Village

It's about a 10-minute walk from the Convention Center past Seaport Village to the Midway. On the way you pass this very impressive memorial to the USS San Diego

312,000 nautical miles? Isn't that something like 13 times around the world at the equator?

Between Seaport Village and the Midway is Tuna Harbor, Where San Diego's tuna fleet is based. The fleet used to be HUGE, but has dwindled in the last decade or so.

A little action out in the bay while I was walking along...

Very interesting statues...the Bob Hope ones are almost so real that they're eerie!

Thanks for the different perspective!

Very nice pictures. We are heading to San Diego in late June. After looking at these pictures, and some others that you've posted, I am actually looking forward to this trip.

Thanks for sharing!

I love San Diego.

Was quckly in and out last Feb, so didn't play tourist.

I did hit Filippi's Italian Restaurant in Little Italy for the first time. Good food!

Awesome photo's.

I wish we had more time last week when we were there to play in the "big" bay. We had to settle for Mission Bay. But it was still a blast.

Maybe the "Pair-A-Docs" is husband and wife? Neat play on words.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Great photo's Troop, thanks.

When I go on vacation I do the tourist thing but we sometimes forget that most of us can do the tourist thing in our own town.

Nice pics. It always surprises me to see all the army presence the US has on most of it's city shores.

what a place that is/was !,
it sort of antiquated itself once cannonballs weren't the optimum weapon for defending ports,

(and once it was decommissioned every group in town wanted to have it including, of course, homeless groups, same as NTC here in 'Dago when NTC was shuttered)

I think George Lucas won that bidding battle, and now has the HQ of his Industrial Light and Magic company based there.

Troop - thanks for the pic's. Makes me nostalgic as the admiral and I always vacationed in SD from Tucson. I know, I know you SD folks don't like the Zonies so much. We always went to Seaport Village and walked along the same places you took pic's of. and so, I'll apprpriately say..."Thanks for the memories!"

Yeah, Disney also has a slice of the Presidio pie. They'll be putting in a Disney Museum there in the future.

Fort Point is at the actual base of the Gate. VERY cool place.

And that fog horn is LOUD!!!!

The term "bell-shifts" might be foreign to those not in the car biz....thanks for showing more of your talents....
