I was just wondering when people change out their raw water impeller. The boat is an inboard ski boat with a Mercruiser 5.7 MAG. It is going into it's third season with about 90 hours on it.
Any input would be appreciated.
thanks
Gil

a Gekko with a Mercruiser? I was under the impression Gekko used PCM engines.

Regardless, I think you will get some varying opinions here on whether to change or not. Some will say if not overheating dont bother. Others are more proactive with such maintenance items.

If it is easy to do then I would change it. I'm of the proactive activity mindset on maintenance items.

I have a Volvo and they recommend that the impeller be changed every 2 years at minimum. I had mine changed this spring when I summerized, and I'm glad I did. At least 2 blades had been sheared off. It cost me extra labor for the shop to then track down the stray pieces in the thermostat housing.

It seems you should at least inspect your impeller, but if you are going that far, just stick in a new one.

Three seasons and 90 hours seems to be right about time to change it, especially if it is decommissioned for several months each year.

Which is why I believe it is better to change a bit early than 1 second too late.

Thanks for the input, I will probably change it out since I have a few more weeks be for I put the boat in. Rocnat15- the base engine is a PCM, optioned up for the Merc.
The pump runs off the serpentine belt and it looks like one of those one hour jobs that will take all day to get right.
