The new boat we are buying has one busted rear light. I figured since I am replacing that anyway, why not replace them with LED lights. Can I just use the existing and splice the new lights in or do I need to rewire the trailer?

Thanks thumb

Piece of cake. Should plug right in. Search the internet. They can be had for pennies on the dollar. I will post a link later.

Wow. That's really expensive. Academy has them for $59, so you know you can get them even cheaper online.

Ok not all that stuff but the two rear lights will cost you $50.00 the light bar can be picked up for around $25.00 and each marker lights I have seen for around 5-7 smackers each.
So, yeah, what you said around $90.00 funny

If you're buying online $90.00 sounds about right for all the lights once you add in shipping. $50 or so for just the set of tail/turn lights. If you go so far as to get the kit with all the wires you might just as well replace the wiring too. It will only add about 15 minutes to the total job.

When I replace this set, hopefully not soon, I will go to LED. I think they are brighter, and with multiple led's in each you can loose one or two and still have light on that side.

I'm going to replace mine with LED also and I'm using the exisitng harness. I've read about "heat shrinking" the splice after soldering. I'm assuming this should be done, right?

I would/will do it that way, the heat shrink helps protect the connection from the environment.

Lowe's carries butt splices, that are coated with the heat shrink and lined with adhesive which makes them watertight. I think they cost me $7 for a 25 pack?

I just decided to replace mine with the LED fixtures as they needed bulb replacement. So far I have LED brake/signal lights and an LED 3 light bar. I've not replaced any of my clearance or marker lights yet.

That's what I did. I even put liquid electrical tape on the ends of the heat shrink. Maybe over kill but I figured if a little water got in there it would never get out.

On second thought you could use firecadets idea grin

What? I said they'll plug right in which would mean that there is no need to rewire... Are you giving me a hard time.

Try here for good prices. But for me shipping was cheap because they're in CA.

I tried to buy some headsets last year from Overstock. They sent me a different model than the one I ordered; I sent it back, they sent me a second different one, I sent it back, and finally told them to just forget it.

They were not expensive - maybe $15 each for two, but the one they had in their website was kind of neat, and that is the one I wanted. Seems if they had anything close, that is what they sent.

I'd be interested to know if you get what you ordered. Please keep us posted. Maybe my experience was just a fluke.
