Very good question. Dunno what the typical distance is for a tournament run.

Off Long Island, NY it maybe 100 plus miles. Off So. Calif maybe the 30 or so miles to Catalina.

Or even the backside of Catalina, which is even further.

Err, to the back side of Catalina at full tilt in a tournament boat would be no biggie I think? After all, the ski guys ....

Depends on the weather as its a fair distance.

They also run out to San Clemente island another 20 miles past Catalina.

I did that in a friend's boat for an extended weekend. Refueled each way at Catalina Island. No landing on San Clemente.

Catch any fish?

Too many. We illegally tied-off to a Navy Ship Buoy where it was very deep. The three of us each had five hooks and lowered them down. Drank two beers. Reeled them up. Usually two to four fish per pole. One guy set up a cleaning board and cleaned all the way back. We ate fillets while there, at home, and still froze some. One great long, extended weekend.
