Hi,
I got a price of $1000 for a bow and cockpit cover for my 20' Sea Hunt dual console. Sunbrella material. This seems like a decent price, but have nothing to compare it to. Anyone have experience with custom covers and costs?

Thanks

Sunbrella goes for anywhere between $1 to $3 per sq ft. just for the material; depending on the type of material (Sunbrella, Sunbrella Supreme, etc). By the time you add banding, webbing, snaps, and labor, $1K seems fairly reasonable for a custom project.

That price is high, of course, but that seems to be the going rates. My cockpit cover only is going to be $960. The Sunbrella material was listed at $282 on the invoice. Yours would need that much and more. And the labor to make two covers should be more than the labor to make mine. So actually $1000 for your two is a better price than the $960 for my one.
If you were near Lakeland, FL, you'd be paying about $350 less.

One thing you might want to consider is Sunbrella Plus or Sunbrella Supreme rather than standard Sunbrella.

The difference is that those two products are a "sandwich" of Sunbrella and a urethane coating in the case of Plus, or flocking in the case of Supreme. In both cases, the result is a virtually waterproof cover (which may or may not be an advantage depending on your humidity level), and the flocking on the underside is more gentle to varnished and gelcoat surfaces.

My Bimini is of the urethane type and it shure is watertight. I have never treated it with any repellent stuff but it still shows some of the normal mold on the uderside which I have to tackle next.
All my canvas is in a great shape and only the front window seems to need a repellent treatment after the winter (it faces north north west so it does not get that much sun and the rest is pretty much under cover. The beauty of covered slips here. Of course it is not in a barn wrapped in vinyl like so many other boats up north are.

today was a great boating day with a few gusts at 20+mph but otherwise perfect with 70+ air temp and water around 52 (normal year round for the northwesterners!! \:\)
