Here is a link to a fairly recent publication by the USCG. It was revised in Nov 2003, so it is pretty current.

The Boatbuilder's Handbook takes exceprts from 33CFR183 (Regulations for Recreation Boats) and other resources, and expands on them, including examples, suggestions, and the like.

Its just the thing for us boat-tinkerers or closet boat builders! ;\)

I am bumping this thread because no one apparently saw it. The referenced URL in my original post takes you to a USCG site where you can either view the handbook on line or download it.

Admin - this might be a good thread to "nail" to the top of the "Boat Improvements" section. A good number of questions posted on BABC concerning electrical, fuel, and safety systems are covered in this handbook.

Since this handbook is published by the USCG, and references federal law, there should be no liability issues here by recommending it.

Even though it is a government publication, I feel it is written exceptionally well, and should be something any of us that like to tinker should have handy.

I already downloaded all the .pdf files myself.

I saw it, but that was during the 'busy time' of my house life.

I have the electrical section printed, 3-hole punched and bound! \:\)

I like your sticky idea too, I'll see about it.

Ry.

You can find more free plans at http://www.Svensons.com

I'm still in the "dreaming of building a boat" stage, and have been there for quite some time.
