Just bought my first powered boat. It is a 1986 Bayliner Capri 1950 with the AQ125B motor and 270 drive. It needs some work, but I hope it will serve well. Glad to have found this forum. I go a little nuts when I buy stuff, so i have to know everything about it. If any of you ever visit Beaver lake, give me a hollar. I just moved to Rogers, AR from the flats of Kansas.

I am having the boat delivered tommorrow. Anything I should look at before taking the maiden voyage? Thanks

Ron

Welcome! First think to check: is the plug in?

My brother and sister live in Rogers too! That town is much bigger now since they moved there in 89. Nice lake, big fish to!

I'd change the oil and lower unit lube, maybe check out the impeller and any belts. That way, you have a base to start from for your routine maintenance, since you don't really know when the last maintenance was performed.

Make sure you have good emergency equipment. Cell phone and/or vhf is good for the maiden voyage, as well as flares, vests, first aid kit, and a couple of wrenches, screw drivers, etc.

Have fun and take pictures!

Welcome and congrats on the boat. Too new to offer any advice other than listen to what these boaters say (other than the bad jokes) and you won't go wrong.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will be sure to take the ten drawer kennedy tool box with me ;\)

Hopefully I won't have any major malfunctions for the maiden voyage.

I have decided to name the boat Knotical Nonsense (as though anyone cares). lol

Thanks again!

Run it at high speed for a bit and keep a close eye on the temperature gauge. Those old AQ125s and 270 drives have overheating issues. Fortunately, the overheating issues are typically cheap and easy to fix.

Welcome, BTW.
