Our boat is a 1988 Sunrunner Ultra 252, which we bought in April 2002 from a broker. We looked at several boats before this one...most were very similar to the Sea Ray we already had, only bigger, so at first we decided to just keep the Sea Ray. I saw a picture of the Sun Runner on the broker's website, called them, and they said they just got it on their lot. The wife fell in love with it instantly! It had a completely different topside layout, and had everything we were looking for (even a walk-thru windshield, we were surprised how many boats DON'T have one!)

It has/had a few bugs- I've put on a new carb, a new distributor, fixed the keel, tightened some hoses, and it still needs a trim pump head unit - but she's running like new, and even after I buy the pumphead, I'll still be well under $1000 for fix-up...not bad considering we've put 192 hours on it so far!

My BIG picture!

Here is my
Boat pic

We bought her when we moved to Texas in may of 2002.

I looked at a few boats but as soon as I saw her I knew.

The owner of this boat was obsessed with proper care & maint and showed me every little quirk she had. He had all maint records and seem to be very honest.

He even called me later that season to see how she was doing.

That guy reminded me alot of myself.

We now have 2 seasons on her without much of any problems.
Had a running hot issue but its taken care of. ;\)

She takes me away from all the things I want to forget about when the weekend & vacation come around.

She may not be much of a boat as far as boats go but I love her !!

A couple of GREAT examples of what you can do to get on the water! The Admiral was just admiring your Sunrunner, FR! Said it looked huge. A cool boat, and a great way to get family cruising in style without mortgaging the family future.

And BF--you went just the way we did. Get a boat that is well cared for, doesn't need a lot of attention, but gets you ON THE WATER. I tell people all the time you just need to get the bug. The details are manageable!

Let's get those boat pics up there! \:D

Were we supposed to write a narrative too?

I don't know if you have enough space on your web page for mine

Wow, the website is looking great! How long will it take us to blow the storage space on the server? :-)

My boat and crew

I took this picture last month at the end of a nice day of boating. Of course, since I was off taking pictures, no one else was doing my jobs like raising the motor. Luckily we noticed before dragging it up the concrete ramp..

One thing I have noticed is some of you guys are not naming your boats!

No matter how large or small, your boat deserves to be named.

You would not have a pet dog and not name it, would you?

So, think of a cool name, and get it on your boat!

Al,

I mentioned to my kids that they were lucky they got their names at birth after all the delay in naming the boat. After 2 years we have finally decided on a name, but it isn't on the actual boat yet, so I left it off when I sent the pic to FR.

The boat will be christened next year as the "Lindsey Jeanne" my daughters' middle names. All my other suggestions were vetoed by the captain..

Al,
As far as names go, I would like to have one, but.... It is now 2 seasons old and has never been named. no name on my last boat either.

Do we have to do some voodoo ritual, rain dance or the like in order to name her this late in the game? Do we have to do an official naming ceremony?

Wasn't sure the protocol, so I have done nothing!

Any ideas? \:D

Here is a link to a boat renaming procedure. This is just an extension of the naming procedure, so you should only have to do the lower half.

Boat Renaming/Naming Procedure

It basically consists of a lot of mindless chanting and drinking of libation.

FR,

Some folks may want to add their pics but not know this is the thread to go to, to do it.

Could you add a blurp on the home page that directs them to this thread to add their pic??

Just a thought.

O.K. Guys and Gals,
Our boat "L.A.Lady" is a 1994 Mariah. We brought her home to live with us in June of 1997. Bought her used but extremely well cared for.
The name came from two boats that my parents owned:
"Laura Ann" (L.A.) and "Ladybug" (Lady).
This boat is the pride and joy of our household. \:\) Needless to say we have a "love affair" with the boat!!
We looked for two years before we bought her. And we got lucky when we found her!! She was the make, size, color, even had the seating layout that we wanted!!
"L.A.Lady"
Enjoy!! Happy Boating trails to you all!!

Thnaks Al!

I guess I'll have to give it a try. Also, I hope to get some nice in-water pics of my boat so that I can add them to the boats page soon. I have some distant shots and some trailer shots, but no really nice water shots!

Silvtongdvl,
I have them. I think you sent them to me already- but thanks. I think my brother and I kind of look like Fric and Frac in that picture, so I figured I'd try to take a better one! \:D

I finally got the digital camera figured out enough to send FR a trailer shot in the back yard.
Plumfun
We purchased this boat new in July 1997. The dealer took off the shrink wrap for us to demo the boat. It has the 5.8L cobra SX and standard SS seating. The name PlumFun is obviously based on the color, but our first choice of PlumCrazy was already being used in the area. It has been a great boat to raise our two girls on. We have used this boat for everything from fishing, cruising, and watersports.

Thanks to FR for the assist.

MTBoater,
Tell me about the bow guard towing thingie in your pic. Never seen one of those before. I presume (I know better than to "assume") that it is to deflect bugs/dirt when towing. How do you crank the winch when loading? I'm often towing home at night and get too many bugs on the bow.
