Ha ha! That picture is ridiculous. At least in bigger, heavier boats, playing in seas requires a somewhat specific, if simple approach...power up, fall down, rinse, repeat. I'm not sure fiberglass boats have the necessary weight or torque to do

Most modern electronic equipment is pretty reliable, regardless of the brand. Any equipment "design" approved by the FCC after 1999 must include DSC. So if you see a radio without DSC, it was designed/approved by the FCC prior to the 1999
